The basics

What is general dentistry?

General dentistry is the everyday care that keeps your mouth healthy — diagnosing and treating cavities, gum disease, infected nerves and impacted wisdom teeth, plus preventive scaling and check-ups. It's the foundation that protects your teeth before bigger problems start.

At Baro Dental this care is delivered by board-certified specialists, with a focus on catching problems early and treating them as gently and conservatively as possible — while you're visiting Busan or living here.

Early detection matters. We use a Qray Pen fluorescence device to help reveal early decay and plaque the naked eye can miss — so small problems can be treated small, before they need a crown or root canal.
Our approach

Gentle, careful, caught early

Good everyday dentistry prevents big problems. Here's how we approach your routine care.

Board-certified specialists

Even routine care is handled by board-certified specialists in Advanced General Dentistry — thorough diagnosis, not a rushed once-over.

Early detection technology

A Qray Pen fluorescence device and low-dose imaging help us find early decay and plaque, so we treat problems while they're still small.

Conservative & honest

We treat what needs treating — no upselling. Where a small filling will do, that's what you get, explained clearly in English.

How much does a dentist visit cost in Busan without insurance?

Less than most visitors expect. At Baro Dental, scaling is ₩30,000, a CT scan ₩30,000, and a simple resin filling ₩80,000(cervical ₩50,000) — published non-covered fees that are the same whether or not you hold Korean insurance. You'll know the figure before treatment starts, in writing.

Can foreigners see a dentist in Korea without Korean insurance?

Yes — no insurance is required. Non-covered treatments cost the same for everyone; some insured items (like basic scaling for residents) are simply charged at the published non-covered rate instead. Bring nothing but your questions — records, X-rays and a written estimate go home with you for any insurer claim.

My tooth hurts — will I need a root canal or an extraction?

Neither is decided by pain alone. A CT and vitality test show whether the nerve can recover, needs root canal treatment to save the tooth, or whether the tooth is truly beyond saving. Our default is conservative: we extract only when saving costs you more tooth than it keeps — and we show you the scan either way.

How often should I get dental scaling?

For most adults every six to twelve months, depending on how quickly you build tartar and your gum condition — smokers and coffee drinkers usually sit at the shorter end. At ₩30,000 per visit in Busan, many of our international patients simply schedule scaling around each trip to Korea.

What a visit covers

One check-up, four layers of prevention.

01

See

Exam plus low-dose CT (₩30,000) and Qray fluorescence — early lesions and cracks show up before they hurt.

02

Clean

Scaling (₩30,000) clears the tartar that brushing can’t, protecting gums before disease starts.

03

Fix small

Anything found early is usually a same-day resin filling (₩50,000–80,000) — not a crown, not a root canal.

04

Protect

Grinders get a night guard plan; travellers get records to carry home and WhatsApp follow-up either way.

An honest read

Treat what needs treating — and nothing that doesn’t.

What good general care looks like…

  • catching decay while a ₩50,000–80,000 filling still fixes it — Qray light detection finds lesions X-rays miss
  • scaling and gum care on a schedule that fits your tartar rate, not a sales calendar
  • root canal treatment that saves a natural tooth before anyone talks about replacing it
  • a night guard (₩300,000) when grinding is quietly wearing down everything else we fixed

What we won’t do…

  • drill a watchable early lesion — some spots need monitoring and fluoride, not a filling
  • upgrade a small filling into a crown — the smallest restoration that works is the right one
  • extract a symptom-free wisdom tooth by default — position and cleansability decide, and we show you why on the CT
  • start any treatment before you've seen the finding and the written price

Common questions

General dentistry FAQ

Message us on WhatsApp with your symptoms and, if you can, a photo of the tooth. We'll advise on urgency and help you find the soonest suitable time. Toothache can range from a simple cavity to a nerve issue needing a root canal, so an early check often means simpler, more comfortable treatment.

Yes — most tooth-coloured fillings and professional cleanings (scaling) are completed in a single visit, which suits travellers well. More involved treatment, like a root canal followed by a crown, may need a second appointment. Tell us your dates and we'll plan around your stay.

Alongside a careful visual exam and imaging, we use a Qray Pen — a fluorescence device that highlights early decay and plaque that's hard to see with the naked eye. Catching decay early means a small filling instead of a larger restoration later, which is better for your tooth and your wallet.

Some general procedures — root canal, extraction, gum treatment and basic scaling — are insured for Korean residents. If you don't have Korean national health insurance, these are charged at the standard non-covered rate, which we confirm at your visit. A resin filling starts from ₩80,000. Message us for an estimate based on your case.

Yes. We assess wisdom teeth with imaging to see their position and roots, then remove problematic or impacted ones with a clear plan and aftercare. Some straightforward extractions are quick; deeply impacted teeth take more care. Send us any X-rays you have and we'll advise on what to expect.

Yes — a custom night guard, made to fit your teeth, cushions and protects them from grinding and clenching during sleep, and can ease related jaw discomfort. If your grinding is linked to jaw-joint pain, we can also look at that; see our TMJ & jaw treatment page.

We prioritise gentle, comfortable care. Fillings and extractions are done under local anaesthetic so you shouldn't feel pain during treatment, and early detection means many issues are caught while they're still minor. Tell us if you're anxious — we'll take extra time to keep you comfortable.

Yes — that's how most of our international patients use us. A first-day exam, CT and scaling map out anything else worth doing; fillings can usually happen the same day, and larger work is scheduled across your stay. Message us your travel dates on WhatsApp and we'll plan the sequence before you fly. A useful rule of thumb: allow one visit for exam and scaling, add a day if fillings are likely, and keep any extraction at least a couple of days before your flight home so we can check the site before you leave.
