The basics

What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is a small titanium fixture placed into the jawbone to replace the root of a missing tooth. Over the following months it fuses with the surrounding bone through a natural process called osseointegration, creating a stable foundation. A custom abutment and a zirconia crown are then attached — giving you a replacement tooth that looks, feels and functions like a natural one.

Unlike a bridge, an implant doesn't rely on grinding down the healthy teeth beside the gap, and unlike a removable denture it stays fixed in place. For most people missing one or more teeth, a well-planned implant is the closest thing to getting the original tooth back — cared for properly, it can last for decades.

Why Korea for implants? Korea is one of the world's most advanced implant markets — Korean systems like Osstem and DIO are exported worldwide, and prices are a fraction of North America or Europe without compromising the hardware. What varies most is the surgeon, which is where specialist planning matters.
Why it matters who does it

The implant is the same. The surgeon isn't.

The hardware is standardised worldwide — the difference in outcome comes down to diagnosis, planning and the hands placing it. Here's what you get at Baro Dental.

Specialists who teach it

Both directors are board-certified specialists in Advanced General Dentistry and Osstem AIC faculty — they train other dentists in implant surgery, including digital-guided and sinus techniques.

Digital-guided precision

Every case is planned in 3D from a cone-beam CT scan. A surgical guide and navigation translate that plan to the exact position, depth and angle — removing guesswork from the most critical step.

Genuine systems, honest plans

We use genuine Straumann, Osstem and DIO implants with custom abutments — and we recommend only what your case needs. If a simpler option works, we tell you. Your estimate is written and clear before we start.

Digital-guided surgery

Planned in 3D, placed with a guide

Guesswork is removed before surgery even begins. Here's how a digital-guided implant is planned and placed at Baro Dental.

01

Cone-beam CT

A low-dose 3D scan maps your jawbone, nerves and sinus in fine detail — no flat X-ray guesswork.

02

3D planning

Your specialist plans the exact implant position, depth and angle in software, around your anatomy and final crown.

03

Surgical guide

A custom guide (and navigation for complex cases) transfers the plan precisely to the mouth during surgery.

04

Precise placement

The implant goes exactly where planned — typically faster, more comfortable and more predictable healing.

Technology we use

The equipment behind precise care

Accurate implants start with accurate imaging. These are the diagnostic tools our specialists use in-clinic.

Fluorescence imaging that reveals early cavities and plaque the naked eye can miss, for earlier, gentler treatment.

ST Portable dental X-ray unit

ST Portable X-ray

A portable X-ray unit that captures the exact area needed quickly and accurately, right at the chair.

Trios 5 digital intraoral scanner

Trios 5 Scanner

A digital intraoral scanner that captures your mouth quickly and precisely — no uncomfortable impression trays.

When more is needed

Not enough bone? We can rebuild it.

Missing teeth for a while can mean the jawbone has shrunk. That doesn't rule out implants — it just means a preparatory step, confirmed by your CT scan.

Bone graft

Where the ridge is too thin or short, grafting material rebuilds volume so the implant has a solid foundation. Simple grafts are often done at the same time as implant placement; larger defects heal first.

  • Simple & complex ridge augmentation
  • Often placed alongside the implant
  • Confirmed from your 3D CT

Sinus lift

For upper back teeth, the sinus can sit too low for an implant. A sinus lift gently raises the sinus floor and adds bone, creating the height needed — via a crestal (minimal) or lateral approach depending on how much is required.

  • Crestal approach — minimally invasive
  • Lateral approach — for greater height
  • Placed by Osstem AIC sinus-trained specialists
Is it right for me?

Who dental implants suit

A good candidate if you…

  • Are missing one, several or all of your teeth
  • Have a failing bridge or a tooth beyond saving
  • Are tired of a loose or uncomfortable denture
  • Want a fixed, natural-feeling, long-lasting solution
  • Are in reasonable general and gum health

May need a first step if you…

These don't rule out implants — they just mean preparation, which your 3D CT will confirm:

  • Have significant jawbone loss → bone graft or sinus lift first
  • Have active gum disease → stabilised before surgery
  • Have uncontrolled diabetes or are a heavy smoker → managed for best healing

Common questions

Dental implant FAQ

From placement to the final crown, most implants take about 2–4 months, because the implant needs time to fuse with the bone (osseointegration). If a bone graft or sinus lift is needed first, add a few more months of healing. We give you a precise timeline for your case after the CT scan — and plan visits around your travel.

Sometimes the placement and a temporary can be done in one visit, but the final crown usually comes after healing, so most patients plan two trips or a longer stay. We're honest about this up front — we won't rush the timeline in a way that risks the result. Message us with your dates and we'll map out what's realistic.

Yes. Our implant fixture prices include the custom abutment and the zirconia crown for that tooth. If you need a bone graft or sinus lift first, those are quoted separately and shown clearly in your written estimate — never added as a surprise.

All three are genuine, reliable systems; "best" depends on your case. Straumann is the premium Swiss benchmark often chosen for front teeth or demanding cases. Osstem is our most popular all-rounder — excellent reliability and value, placed by Osstem AIC faculty. DIO is a solid value option. Your specialist recommends the right fit for your bone, location and budget.

The surgery itself is done under local anaesthetic, so you shouldn't feel pain during placement — most patients are surprised how straightforward it is. Mild soreness or swelling for a few days afterward is normal and managed with simple medication. Digital-guided, minimally invasive placement generally means a smoother recovery.

Only if your jawbone has shrunk where the tooth is missing, which is common after teeth have been gone a while. Your cone-beam CT tells us exactly. Simple grafts are often done at the same appointment as the implant; larger ones heal first. We'll confirm whether you need one — and the cost — before anything begins.

With good oral hygiene and regular check-ups, implants can last for decades — many for life. The titanium fixture is very durable; the crown on top may occasionally need attention over many years. The biggest factor is gum and bone health, so cleaning around the implant and periodic reviews matter.

There's no upper age limit — many implant patients are older, and general health matters far more than age. The one exception is younger patients whose jaw is still growing; we usually wait until growth is complete. A quick assessment confirms suitability either way.

Often, yes — but it's case by case. Where the site can be grafted and re-implanted after healing, we can revise it. Some situations, such as when extensive block bone grafting would be required, may not be suitable. Send us photos and any records or CT on WhatsApp and we'll give you an honest assessment.
